Matt Porter was the founder and owner of Tidewater Oil Company– an oil, propane and service business in Belfast, ME. Tounge Associates had the privilege to assist Matt Porter in the sale of his business to Dead River in 2022.
After enjoying a year of travel adventures with his wife Michele, which included a 92 day road trip in which they visited all lower 48 states, Matt is ready to embark on a new career path. He is excited to work with and advise other business owners as they navigate their exit strategies and sale of their businesses.
Matt grew up in a family-owned oil company. When he started Tidewater in 2006 – he remembered tagging along on deliveries and service calls when he was young and witnessed daily his father’s commitment to exceeding his customers’ expectations. Those early lessons in how to do things right were the foundation upon which Tidewater was built. After 15+ years of operations, Matt decided he was ready to exit, and that was the best decision for him and his Family.
